Sylvain Faucon

Sylvain Faucon began studying the oboe in Perpignan with Michel Giot. He continued his studies there with Bernard Langlois and obtained his Diplôme d’Études Musicales (DEM) in 2011. After receiving a Prize of Excellence at the Conservatory of Perpignan, he joined the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne in 2013, where he studied with Jean-Louis Capezzali and Vincent Gay-Balmaz. In 2016, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, followed by a Master of Performance (Concert specialization) in 2018.

During his years of study, Sylvain took part in numerous masterclasses, notably with Heinz Holliger, Simon Fuchs (Principal Oboe of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich), and Dominik Wollenweber (Principal English Horn of the Berlin Philharmonic).

Sylvain is regularly invited as principal oboe with many French orchestras, including the Orchestre National de Montpellier Occitanie and the Orchestre National de Bretagne, and has also performed with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France as second oboe.

He also takes part in productions abroad with prestigious ensembles such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège under the direction of conductor Gergely Madaras, the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, where he works as an extra musician. Since August 2017, Sylvain has collaborated regularly with the Basel Sinfonietta, an ensemble specializing in contemporary music and new creations. These numerous collaborations have allowed him to further refine his artistry and later led him to work with other ensembles such as the Lémanic Moderne Ensemble and Ensemble Contrechamps in Geneva, as well as Ensemble Court-circuit in Paris.

Sylvain also performs at many festivals in Switzerland, including the Sion Festival and the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, alongside renowned conductors such as Neeme Järvi and Jaap van Zweden. He is also active as a chamber musician, notably with the “Cayos Quintet,” a wind quintet of which he has been a member since 2016.
